Being held accountable

The CQC have a range of powers and can take action if a care provider is not meeting ther standards

The Care Quality Commission

The CQC are the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England. They make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care.

They monitor, inspect and regulate services to make sure they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety and publish what they find to help people choose care.

The CQC set out what good and outstanding care looks like and make sure services meet fundamental standards below which care must never fall:

  • Ensuring the care plan is tailored to meet the clients needs.
  • Treating clients with dignity and respect and ensuring consent is given for the agreed care plan.
  • Ensuring the safety of clients at all times.
  • Ensuring they have a well balanced and enjoyable diet.
  • Ensuring the facilities/equipment are safe to use.
  • Having procedures in place to deal with complaints should they arise.
  • Having the right level of staffing, both in terms of numbers and the skills required to provide effective care.

When the CQC identifies poor levels of care, they use their powers to take action.
