Residential Care

We take the time to get to know our residents, as the better we know them, the better care we can give and the better able we are to respond to their needs.

Melrose House – it’s a family affair

Making the decision to transition to a care home is undeniably challenging, involving relinquishing one’s home and acknowledging the need for more comprehensive assistance in daily routines.

Illness or trauma can further complicate our ability to navigate daily tasks, once seemingly effortless. This situation can be both frustrating and mentally draining, often leading us to delay seeking help. However, this is where our dedicated team steps in.

At Melrose House, we recognize that those who reside here are not mere numbers; they are unique individuals. Our commitment lies in ensuring that each person maintains as much independence as possible. We understand the weight of choosing the right home, whether for yourself or a loved one. If you are contemplating Melrose House, we invite you to visit, truly experience the atmosphere, become acquainted with the surroundings, and engage with the caregivers who are available 24 hours a day.

We empathize with the difficulty of this decision-making process and, as part of our approach, conduct a thorough assessment of your needs. We assist in evaluating various options, ranging from intensified support at home, including the provision of live-in carers, to the significant step of moving into residential care.

Your individuality is paramount, and at Melrose House, we aim to ensure that you or your loved one not only receives the necessary care but also continues to lead a life that is as independent and fulfilling as possible.

Our Facilities

Melrose House is a 10 Bedroomed residential assisted living home, located in the fishing village of Cullercoats. The property has magnificent views of Cullercoats Bay and Tynemouth Longsands.

We are a small welcoming home that offers communal living and dining rooms in which residents can relax and socialise. We have outdoor spaces to both the front and rear of the building, with the front garden a very popular spot for residents to sit and watch the world go by.

Comfort is the key when it comes to the resident’s private rooms and we encourage residents to bring their own furniture where possible, as this helps make the room feel more like their own home.

For our staff, it’s more a vocation than a job. We feel it has to be when you are working on such a personal level.

The staff at Melrose House are specifically employed based on their specialist skills and experience in caring for those living with mental health, learning disabilities, or those that need the extra support. They are highly committed, specially trained, and able to build relationships with those who live there. We provide ongoing training for employees so that their ability to provide the absolute best of care continues to improve and develop.

Our clients are not just numbers. We might be there to help clean and tidy, but we always like to engage with our clients, making sure they are ok, mentally and physically, and have everything they need.

They’re not simply clients; they are our friends, and it’s the relationships that we develop that make it all the more worthwhile.

Of course, having a desire to help is not enough on its own, which is why we ensure our staff have the relevant skills, both through formal training and internal workshops.

Adding to this commitment, we continually strive to enhance our services by staying attuned to the evolving needs of our clients. Our goal is to provide not just a cleaning service, but a holistic and caring experience. We go beyond the surface, acknowledging that our clients may have unique challenges, and we tailor our approach to accommodate their individual requirements.

Furthermore, we understand the importance of fostering a supportive environment for both our clients and staff. Our team members are not only skilled professionals but also compassionate individuals who genuinely care about the well-being of those they serve. This compassionate approach is deeply ingrained in our training programs, ensuring that our staff is not only adept in cleaning and organizing but also in providing emotional support and understanding to those in need.

Taking the next steps

Funding

If you’re not sure about funding, we can help. We have devised a simple, four-step strategy to help maximise any support you may be able to get:

  1. NHS funding – Are you eligible?
  2. Local authority funding – Is this an option to help support your care?
  3. Other Support – What other grants or support might be available?
  4. Finance – How might you fund your care with savings or an asset?

We will discuss all of the above with you and help you as much as we can.
